Gastrointestinal disorders such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, rare cases of pseudomembranous colitis and staphylococcal enteritis, negative effects on bones and teeth in children. Intracranial hypertension [Fraser 2012]. Rhabdomyolysis has been described in a case report [Kempeneers 2013].

Treatment of children aged 8–12 years should only be considered when other options are ineffective or contraindicated. Crossover sensitivity and crossover resistance can occur between tetracyclines. Deposition in growing tooth tissue causes permanent discoloration of the teeth.
