Dosages

Hypokalaemia
  • Intravenous
    • 1 month up to 18 years
        • Dose based on guided serum potassium concentration, maximum 2-3 mmol/kg/day
        • Do not administer undiluted: maximum potassium concentration 40 mmol/liter.
        • Infusion rate max. 15-20 mmol per hour
        • Higher doses or faster infusion must be monitored by ECG.
        • Administer via large peripheral or central vein.
  • Oral
    • 1 month up to 18 years
      • Dose depending on the plasma potassium concentration.

Maintenance requirement for potassium in TPN
  • Intravenous
    • < 3 kg
      • 1 - 2 mmol/kg/day, continuous infusion.
      • = 1-2 ml/kg/day at a concentration of 7.5% (potassium concentration of 1 mmol/ml). Dose depending on the plasma concentration

    • ≥ 3 kg
      • 1 - 3 mmol/kg/day, continuous infusion.
      • = 1-3 ml/kg/day at a concentration of 7.5% (potassium concentration of 1 mmol/ml). Dose depending on plasma concentration.
