Dosages

Prevention of hypomagnesemia
  • Oral
    • 1 month up to 18 years
      • Elemental magnesium: 0.12 - 0.25 mmol/kg/day in 3 - 4 doses. Max: 16 mmol/day.
        •  1,2 mmol magnesium = 500 mg magnesiumgluconate(0-water)
        • Magnesium gluconate has not been studied in children.
Hypomagnesaemia
  • Oral
    • 1 month up to 12 years
      • Elemental magnesium
        Initial dose 0.6         mmol/kg/day in 3 doses. Max: 24 mmol/day. Adjust dose based on plasma magnesium concentration.
        •  1.2 mmol magnesium= 500 mg magnesium gluconate(0-water)
        • Magnesium gluconate has not been studied in children.
    • 12 years up to 18 years
      • Elemental magnesium
        Initial dose 12 - 24         mmol/day in 3 doses. Adjust dose based on plasma magnesium concentration.
        • 1,2 mmol magnesium = 500 mg magnesiumgluconate (0-water)
        • Magnesium gluconate has not been studied in children.
