Dosages

Acute ethylene glycol intoxication
  • Intravenous
    • 1 month up to 18 years
      • Start:15 mg/kg/dose

        Subsequent doses:
second dose (12 hours after starting): 10 mg/kg/dose
third dose (24 hours after starting): 10 mg/kg/dose
fourth dose (36 hours after starting): 10 mg/kg/dose
fifth dose (48 hours after starting): 7.5–15 mg/kg/dose
sixth dose (60 hours after starting): 5-15 mg/kg/dose
        Administer over 30-45 minutes.

Until the ethylene glycol levels have dropped to below 0.2 g/l (3.2 mmol/l).
The number of maintenance doses and the dosage after 48 hours will depend on the initial concentration and the progression of the ethylene glycol levels over time. In general, 4 to 5 maintenance doses are recommended for initial ethylene glycol levels of between 3 and 6 g/l (48 to 96 mmol/l) and 1 to 3 maintenance doses are recommended for initial ethylene glycol levels of between 0.35 and 1.5 g/l (5.6 to 24 mmol/l)
