Pharmacokinetics in children

Trospiumchloride is absorbed primarily in the upper gastrointestinal tract and is barely absorbed in rectal use. [Schröder 2004]

Dosages

Urinary incontinence, overactive bladder syndrome, neurogenic bladder
  • Oral
    • 12 years up to 18 years
      • 30 - 45 mg/day in 2 - 3 doses.
      • Dosing according to clinical effects and side effects.

  • Rectal
    • 1 month up to 18 years
      • Systemic absorbtion after rectal admiistration is very limited.Therefore rectal use of Trospium is not recommended.

Renal impaiment in children > 3 months

Side effects in children

Dry mouth, reddening of the skin, and palpitations, nausea occurred in a study in children aged 3-14 years [Lopez Pereira 1978]. Headache, dizziness, abdominal cramps and dry mouth were reported in a study in children aged 5-13 years [Schröder 2004].
