Dosages

Various rheumatological, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, haematological, nephrological, endocrinological, oncological, neurological, ocular and dermatological disorders, as well as severe allergic reactions, organ transplantation and prophylaxis of nausea and vomiting due to high-emetogenic chemotherapy
  • Oral
    • 0 years up to 18 years

      • The dosage strongly depends on the nature and severity of the condition.

        HIGH DOSE:  2-3 mg/kg/day, preferably in 1 dose in the morning (6.00-8.00 AM) or in 2-4 doses
        MEDIUM DOSE:  1-2 mg/kg/day, preferably in 1 dose in the morning (6.00-8.00 AM) or in 2-3 doses

        Maintenance therapy:  0,25 mg/kg/day, in 1 dose in the morning (6.00-8.00 AM)

      • DOSE REDUCTION: If the clinical results are satisfactory, gradually reduce the daily dose and the frequency of administration, starting to eliminate evening dose, than afternoon dose, than any midday dose. The dose is initially decreased in somewhat larger increments to approx. 30 mg/day, than further reduction in smaller increments. The clinical situation will determine the complete reduction of the dose or the need for a a maintenance dose.

Laryngitis subglottica (pseudo-croup)

Warnings & precautions in children

There is a preference for the use of prednisolone over prednisone due to the (rare) occurrence of a conversion defect (11-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase reductase ectivity).

Closely monitor growth and development of children with long-term use; to avoid growth inhibition, aim for alternating doses.
