Nausea and vomiting are very commonly occurring side effects in children and adolescents. Special attention should be paid to possible dehydration. Tigecycline should be administered in children preferably during an infusion period of 60 minutes.
Permanent discoloration of developing teeth: Hypoplasia of tooth enamel and permanent discoloration (yellow-gray-brown) of teeth have been reported with the use of tetracyclines during the second half of pregnancy or in children up to 8 years of age. This side effect is more common with long-term use of tetracyclines, but has also been reported after repeated short-term use.
In patients (including children) with severely reduced hepatic function (Child-Pugh class C), the Tygacil dose should be reduced by 50%.
