1 g of magnesium sulphate.7H2O contains 4.06 mmol magnesium. Intravenous administration should be done slowly, guided by regular monitoring of the clinical picture (respiration, blood pressure, patellar reflex, urinary excretion) and the magnesium concentrations. Excessively rapid administration can make the patient feel very warm and can ultimately lead to respiratory or cardiac arrest.
