Dosages

Supraventricular tachycardia
  • Intravenous
    • Term neonate
      • Initial dose: 100 microg/kg/dose, IV push

        • If 1e dose is not effective: 200 microg/kg/dose
        • If 2e dosis is not effective: 300 microg/kg/dosis
        • A consecutive dose can be administered 1-2 minutes after the previous dose.
        • There is no point increasing the dose if the arrhythmia stops but reappears immediately.
    • 1 month up to 18 years
      • Initial dose: 100 microg/kg/dose, max 6 mg/dose, IV push

        • If 1st dose is not effective: 200 microg/kg/dose, max 12 mg/dose
        • If 2nd dose is not effective: 300 microg/kg/dose, max 12 mg/dose
        • If 3rd dose is not effective: consider 500 microg/kg/dose, max 12 mg/dose
        • A consecutive dose can be administered 1-2 minutes after the previous dose.
        • There is no point increasing the dose if the arrhythmia stops but reappears immediately.

Renal impaiment in children > 3 months

GFR ≥10 ml/min/1.73m2: Dose adjustment not required.

GFR <10 ml/min/1.73m2: A general recommendation on dose adjustment cannot be provided.

Warnings & precautions in children

Must be administered with ECG checks. Adenosine has no negative inotropic and vasodilating properties. Should be injected quickly. Because of the possible induction of ventricular tachycardia, a defibrillator should be kept on standby.
