  • GFR <10: general advice is not given.
Clinical consequences

With impaired renal function, the excretion of cimetidine is delayed. As a result, the level rises and the t½ increases. Also, serum creatinine rises, as tubular secretion of creatinine decreases. However, this is a reversible effect and does not mean that renal function decreases.

Clinical Effects:
Psychological and psychomotor side effects, such as confusion, sleep disturbances, agitation, drowsiness, and hallucinations, are dose-related and more common in patients with impaired renal function.
