Higher concentrations give more side effects. The tolerability of tretinoin is affected by the delivery method (alcohol or cream). The chemical stability of tretinoin is affected by light, which is why it should be applied in the evening before going to sleep.
Starting with a low concentration, lower frequency of administration and shorter contact duration can improve the tolerability.
Tretinoin is highly teratogenic. Insufficient details are known about cutaneous use during pregnancy. Cases of congenital abnormalities have been reported. Cutaneous application during pregnancy is therefore not recommended.
