Dosages

Wilson’s disease
  • Oral
    • ≥ 18 years
      • 600 mg/day in 3 doses.
        • Titrate the dose depending on free copper in the serum and copper excretion in the urine. Range 300-1200 mg/day in 3 doses. 
        • Do not administer concomitantly with D-penicillamine. 
        • If this upsets the stomach, an equivalent amount of zinc can alternatively be given as zinc gluconate.
Deficiency
  • Intravenous
    • 1 month up to 18 years
      • Dose according to the plasma concentrations.

      • No clinical studies have been carried out into the use of zinc sulphate in children

Maintenance requirement for zinc in TPN
  • Intravenous
    • 2 up to 15 kg
      • 250 microg./kg/day in Peditrace.
      • No clinical studies have been carried out into the use of zinc sulphate in children on TPN.

    • ≥ 15 kg
      • 3.8 mg/day in Peditrace.
      • No clinical studies have been carried out into the use of zinc sulphate in children on TPN.

Renal impaiment in children > 3 months

GFR ≥10 ml/min/1.73m2: Dose adjustment not required.

GFR <10 ml/min/1.73m2: A general recommendation on dose adjustment cannot be provided.
