Dosages

Hypomagnesaemia in convulsions
  • Intravenous
    • Term neonate
      • 10% magnesium chloride (0.5 mmol/ml): 0.08 mmol/kg/dose in 30 min.
      • Under ECG monitoring. Dose depending on the plasma concentration.

        No clinical studies have been carried out into the application of magnesium chloride in neonates with hypomagnesaemia and convulsions.

Maintenance requirement for magnesium in TPN
  • Intravenous
    • < 3 kg
      • 0.15 mmol/kg/day, continuous infusion.
      • Do not administer undiluted. Dose depending on the plasma concentration.
        Dosage corresponds to 0.3 ml/kg/day of 10% magnesium chloride (0.5 mmol/ml)

    • 3 up to 10 kg
      • 0.25 mmol/kg/day, continuous infusion.
      • Do not administer undiluted. Dose depending on the plasma concentration.
        Dosage corresponds to 0.5 ml/kg/day of 10% magnesium chloride (0.5 mmol/ml)

    • ≥ 10 kg
      • 0.12 mmol/kg/day, continuous infusion.
      • Do not administer undiluted. Dose depending on the plasma concentration.
        Dosage corresponds to 0.25 ml/kg/day of 10% magnesium chloride (0.5 mmol/ml)
