Dosages

Hypertensive crisis
  • Intravenous
    • 1 month up to 18 years
      • Initial dose: 2 mg/kg/hour, continuous infusion. Titrate dose on effect.
      • Maintenance dose: 0.8 mg/kg/hour, continuous infusion.
        • Lower initial doses (max 1 mg/kg/h) may be sufficient in infants (expert opinion)
        • When sufficient decrease in bloodpressure is obtained, a lower maintenance dose may be sufficient to maintain the effect.
        • Limited experience is available in children.
        • Due to the amount of propylenglycole the use in children < 5 years should be avoided. Other antihypertensive drugs are preferred and the use in children should be limited to the last resort  and shortest duration. 

Renal impaiment in children > 3 months
