Dosages

Prophylaxis for injuries: Immuno-incompetent people, irrespective of the vaccination status against tetanus
  • Intramuscular
    • 0 years up to 18 years
      [3]
      • 250 IU/dose, once only. in combination with 1 dosis of tetanus toxoid (DTP, young children DPTP) in fully vaccinated patients. If not or incompletely vaccinated, catch up on the missing vaccinations. .
      • Post-exposure prophylaxis with tetanus immunoglobulin would seem to be useful up to 3 weeks after the wound.

Clinically manifest tetanus
  • Intramuscular
    • 1 month up to 18 years
      • 3.000 IU/day in 1 dose
      • Duration of treatment:

        2 days

      • Directions for administration:

        Inject slowly, deep into the muscle. The preparation should preferably be brought to body temperature before administering it.

      • Active immunization after recovery.

Renal impaiment in children > 3 months

GFR ≥10 ml/min/1.73m2: Dose adjustment not required.

GFR <10 ml/min/1.73m2: A general recommendation on dose adjustment cannot be provided.
