Dosages

Bipolar disorder
  • Oral
    • 10 years up to 18 years and < 45 kg
      • Initial dose: On day 1: 20 mg/day in 1 dose
      • Maintenance dose: increase initial dose as needed based on effect in 1-2 weeks to 40 - 80 mg/day in 2 doses. Max: 80 mg/day.
      • Directions for administration:

        Take with food.

    • 10 years up to 18 years and ≥ 45 kg
      • Initial dose: On day 1: 20 mg/day in 1 dose
      • Maintenance dose: increase the initial dose as needed based on effect in 1-2 weeks to 40 - 160 mg/day in 2 doses. Max: 160 mg/day.
      • Directions for administration:

        Take with food.

      • The usual effective maintenance dose is between 80 and 160 mg.

Renal impaiment in children > 3 months

GFR ≥10 ml/min/1.73m2: Dose adjustment not required.

GFR <10 ml/min/1.73m2: A general recommendation on dose adjustment cannot be provided.

Warnings & precautions in children

Ziprasidone is associated with a dose-related prolongation of the QT interval. Do not exceed the maximum dose.

An unequal distribution of the daily dose with morning doses 20 mg or 40 mg lower than evening doses can be considered.
