Dosages

GTP cyclohydrolase I deficiency (GTPCH); 6 pyruvoyl tetrahydropterin synthase deficiency (PTPS); dihydropteridine reductase deficiency (DHPR)
  • Oral
    • Term neonate
      • 1 - 2 mg/kg/day in 3 - 6 doses.
      • Start the dosage low and increase slowly (in steps of 1 mg/kg/day over several days or weeks)
        Treatment by or after consultations with a paediatric specialist (metabolic disorders) who has experience using 5-hydroxytryptophan for this indication.

    • 1 month up to 2 years
      • 3 - 5 mg/kg/day in 3 - 6 doses.
      • Start the dosage low and increase slowly (in steps of 1 mg/kg/day over several days or weeks)
        Treatment by or after consultations with a paediatric specialist (metabolic disorders) who has experience using 5-hydroxytryptophan for this indication.

         

    • ≥ 2 years
      • 6 - 9 mg/kg/day in 3 - 6 doses.
      • Start the dosage low and increase slowly (in steps of 1 mg/kg/day over several days or weeks)
        Treatment by or after consultations with a paediatric specialist (metabolic disorders) who has experience using 5-hydroxytryptophan for this indication.
