Dosages

Extravasation of cytostatic agents
  • Infiltration
    • 1 month up to 18 years

      • Infiltrate the skin with 3-5 ml of 10% sodium thiosulphate solution.
        Dilute 4 ml sodium thiosulphate with 6 ml water.
Prevention of ototoxicity caused by chemotherapy with cisplatin
  • Intravenous
    • < 5 kg
      • 6.4 g/m²/dose in 15 min.
        • Sodium thiosulfate must be administered exactly 6 hours after infusion of cisplatin, and only if the cisplatin infusion lasted no longer than 6 hours.
        • After administration of sodium thiosulfate, wait at least 6 hours before administering cisplatin.
    • 5 up to 10 kg
      • 9.6 g/m²/dose in 15 min.
        • Sodium thiosulfate must be administered exactly 6 hours after infusion of cisplatin, and only if the cisplatin infusion lasted no longer than 6 hours.
        • After administration of sodium thiosulfate, wait at least 6 hours before administering cisplatin.
    • ≥ 10 kg
      • 12.8 g/m²/dose in 15 min.
        • Sodium thiosulfate must be administered exactly 6 hours after infusion of cisplatin, and only if the cisplatin infusion lasted no longer than 6 hours.
        • After administration of sodium thiosulfate, wait at least 6 hours before administering cisplatin.
Cyanide intoxication
  • Intravenous
    • 1 month up to 18 years
      • Run it in slowly 400 mg/kg/dose in 10 minutes.

      • Equivalent to 1,6 ml/kg of 25% solution.

        Administer 4-DMAP beforehand: 1 month to 18 years: 3 mg/kg in a single dose.

Renal impaiment in children > 3 months

GFR ≥10 ml/min/1.73m2: Dose adjustment not required.

GFR <10 ml/min/1.73m2: A general recommendation on dose adjustment cannot be provided.

Contra-indications in children
