Pre-exposure prophylaxis rabies

    • 0 years up to 18 years

      • 1 ml/dose on day 0, day 7 and day 28 (or day 21), repeat after 1 year, thereafter every 5 years.
Post-exposure prophylaxis rabies
  • Intramuscular
    • 0 years up to 18 years

      • Unvaccinated:
        1 ml/dose on day 0, day 3, day 7, day 14 and day 28 (5 injections)
        Alternative: two injections of 1 ml/dose in two different body parts on day 0, followed by 1 injection (1 ml/dose) on day 7 and day 21 (4 injections in total).

        Vaccinated:
        <5 years ago: 1 ml/dose on day 0 and day 3 (2 injections)
        >5 years ago or incomplete: 1 ml/dose on day 0, day 3, day 7, day 14 and day 28 (5 injections) with 20 IU/kg human anti-rabies immunoglobulin as needed

Warnings & precautions in children

When the primary vaccination series of this vaccine is administered to very premature infants (born at 28 weeks gestation or earlier), the potential risk of apnea and the need for airway monitoring for 48-72 hours should be considered, especially in children with a history of respiratory immaturity.
