Renal impaiment in children > 3 months
- GFR ≥30: dosage adjustment is not necessary.
- GFR 10-30: 50% of normal starting dose, adjustment of dosing interval is not needed
- GFR <10: general advice is not given.
Clinical consequences
With impaired renal function, the risk of toxicity may be increased.
Clinical Effects:
First signs of toxicity are a burning sensation in the throat, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Colchicine should be discontinued immediately in this case.

Warnings & precautions in children
Colchicine has small therapeutic window and therefore there is a risk of toxicity. Discontinue administration in case of toxic symptoms such as burning sensation in the throat, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
