Dosages

Eye infection, broad spectrum
  • Ocular
    • Eye drops, solution
      • Term neonate
        • Days 1-2: During waking hours: 1-2 drops every 2 hours
          Days 3-5: 1-2 drops every 4 hours.
          Treat both eyes

        • No studies have been carried out in children aged less than 1 year.

          Treatment by or after consulting a paediatric specialist (ophthalmologist) who has experience of using ofloxacin eye drops.

      • 1 month up to 18 years

        • Days 1-2: During waking hours: 1-2 drops every 2 hours
          Days 3-5: 1-2 drops every 4 hours.
          Treat both eyes

Renal impaiment in children > 3 months

GFR ≥10 ml/min/1.73m2: Dose adjustment not required.

Side effects in children

When applied to the eye: burning sensation, photophobia, reduced vision
When applied to the ear: bitter taste, dizziness, dry mouth, itching, vertigo, ear pain, paraesthesia, tinnitus. No effects on hearing.

In general, children´s eyes show a stronger response to irritations than the adults´ eyes. Irritations can affect the compliance of children. [SmPC Floxal® 3 mg/ml eye drops (GER)]
