Side effects in children
(In)slaapstoornis, milde gastro-intestinale bijwerkingen. Anders dan bij de irreversibele MAO-remmers is de kans op het `tyramine pressor effect´ (ook wel 'kaasreactie' genoemd) zeer klein.

Adult Side Effects
Vaak (1-10%): Slaapstoornissen, duizeligheid, hoofdpijn, misselijkheid, droge mond. Soms (0,1-1%): Huidreacties zoals jeuk, uitslag, urticaria en 'flush', agitatie, angstgevoelens, prikkelbaarheid. Zeer zelden (< 0,01%): Maag-darmstoornissen, visusstoornissen, oedeem, galactorroe, paresthesie. Enkele gevallen van verwardheid zijn gemeld. Stijging van leverenzymwaarden is beschreven. Tijdens behandeling of vlak na stoppen zijn gevallen van suïcidaal gedrag en suïcidale gedachten gemeld.

Warnings & precautions in children
Moclobemide is niet toxisch, echter in combinatie met andere middelen die farmacodynamisch met de monoaminen interacteren (XTC, stimulantia, antidepressiva) kan het "serotonerg syndroom" en hypertensie optreden.

Alerts And Precautions Adults
Een onderliggende psychose of manie kan manifest worden of verergeren. Vanwege meer kans op interactie met tyramine wordt aanbevolen het eten van grote hoeveelheden tyramine-rijk voedsel (bv. > 100 g oude gerijpte kaas) te vermijden. Voorzichtigheid is geboden bij hyperthyroïdie of feochromocytoom in verband met een theoretisch risico van hypertensieve reacties. Ter voorkoming van suïcidepogingen is nauwkeurige observatie noodzakelijk, vooral in het begin van de therapie en na dosisaanpassingen. Met name bij suïcidaal gedrag of suïcidale gedachten in de anamnese, evenals bij patiënten jonger dan 25 jaar is goede vervolging aangewezen, vanwege een vergroot risico van suïcidaal gedrag. Omdat elk psychoactief geneesmiddel het beoordelings- en reactievermogen kan verminderen is voorzichtigheid geboden bij het besturen van motorvoertuigen of het bedienen van machines. Een kuur mag niet plotseling worden gestaakt, de dosering moet geleidelijk worden verminderd
